Projects - Community Involvement

On a Mission to Serve

Lions serve. It’s that simple, and it has been the organization mission since it first began in 1917. Our clubs are places where individuals join together to give their valuable time and effort to improving their communities, and the world. Nationally, the goal is to empower Lions clubs, volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding.

Locally, the Middleton Lions Club Chapter brings that mission the local community by raising funds with volunteers and involvement from local community members to benefit local projects so all funs raised support local efforts.

From our Restoring Hope Transplant House ‘signature project’ to our support of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, Reach-a-Child, WayForward Resources (formerly Middleton Outreach Ministry), High School Scholarships, 100% of income goes to help fund local programs like these in the Middleton area.

Our 'Signature Project'

Restoring Hope Transplant House

Restoring Hope Transplant House is a non-profit home away from home for transplant families who are in search of a second chance at life through the miracle of transplantation at nearby UW Hospital and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.

Located in The Good Neighbor City of Middleton, Restoring Hope has welcomed bone marrow, stem cell, organ transplant and LVAD families from all across Wisconsin, 44 different states and even as far away as Canada, England, Germany, Hong Kong, London, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico and Spain since opening our doors to transplant families in 2013.

Vision

Ever since Helen Keller inspired the Lions to champion the cause in 1925, we’ve served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. Nearly a century later, this long-standing mission continues unhindered. Locally, we continue this vision related support.

  • Eyeglass exams and purchases for those that can’t afford them
  • Eyeglass recycling
  • UW Eye Research and Eye Bank
  • Eye tissue transport

  • Prevent Blindness Wisconsin
  • Leader Dogs for the Blind
  • Braille Library Service BTLS
  • Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired

Diabetes

With the support of Lion Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), we work to reduct the prevalence of diabetes and improve the lives of those living with diabetes.

Locally our efforts include the ongoing support of the WayForward Resources (formerly Middleton Outreach Ministry) which provides access to nutritious food for people throughout Dane County and support that helps people stay in their homes in Middleton, Cross Plains and west Madison.

Youth

We are committed to providing youth and young adults with opportunities to succeed. Our efforts help provide young people and their educators with tools to make positive choices, resist drugs and alcohol, learn through service and become healthy young men and women.

Among our local efforts in Middleton support scouting efforts, Reach-A-Child “to comfort a child-in-crisis with a book”, in addition to local school projects and high school scholarships.

  • High School Scholarships
  • Eagle Scout projects

  • Reach-A-Child
  • Middleton Baseball Commission
  • Local school projects

Wisconsin Lions Camp

Wisconsin Lions Camp Summer Programs are provided to special needs individuals, such as diabetes, intellectual disabilities or autism, free-of-charge thanks to the generosity of Lions Clubs and other donors from Wisconsin.

Environment

Another national Lions Club initiative is to protect our environment. Locally we engage this priority with our US Highway 12 clean up efforts where our member volunteers walk the ditches to pick up trash and keep the area clean and safe.
